Need some IT help this summer?

The MSc courses in Information Technology (run through our School of Computing and Maths) provide graduates of any discipline with a selected balance of theoretical and practical skills which permits them to participate authoritatively in any aspect of information system development.

What is on offer?

The School are currently looking for organisations to place their MSc I. T. and MSc I. T. & Management students with from May to September 2006. This will provide the students with real life experience of the IT industry and offer the host organisations the opportunity to utilise a highly qualified graduate to help them realise a project that they otherwise may not have the time or resources to tackle.
If you have any I. T. related projects that you think maybe of a suitable scale and level for our students we would be very interested in hearing from you.

As a guide, possible projects may include:

  • usability and accessibility research
  • web site and database development
  • program development
  • feasibility reports
  • requirements and end user analysis
  • financial forecasting
  • marketing research

Examples of previous projects:

  • An object-oriented Model of Airport Operations (Manchester Airport)
  • GIS for Land-use Planning (Wrekin Council)
  • Legal Issues in Setting up a National Geospacial Database (Ordinance SUrvey)
  • Interactive Website and Online Personality Profiler (Women's Business Network)
  • Multimedia Software Marketing Tool (Vision Logistics)
  • Tax Return Application System (Keele University)

How do I register my interest?

If you are interested in placing a student please send a brief outline of your project to
Dee Frankish either by e-mail or through the post to this address.
If you wish to discuss the suitability of the MSc in IT placement please call Dee Frankish on 01782 583441

What then?

If the project is suitable, project hosts are invited to a Project meeting, which this year will take place on May 3rd, where they can meet interested students and discuss the project in further detail.
